Assessments

Do you or your child experience some of the following:

  • Zoning out

  • Forgetfulness

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Too many tabs open in your head

  • Difficulty completing tasks

  • Feelings of laziness

  • Symptoms affecting your relationships

Not everyone who is overly hyperactive, inattentive, or impulsive has an attention deficit disorder as most people sometimes blurt out things they didn't mean to say, bounce from one task to another, or become disorganized and forgetful.

ADHD

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), previously known as ADD, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that commonly starts in childhood and may last up to adulthood. ADHD is a condition where people are unable to focus or stay in one place and may behave impulsively. The brains of people with ADHD have more difficulty filtering out background noise, and so find it difficult to maintain focus on one task at a time. It has been suggested that ADHD is associated with lower thresholds for sensory information.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) interferes with daily responsibilities, achieving goals, and maintaining relationships. While the traditional opinion was that only children could be diagnosed with ADHD, it’s now clear that adults require diagnosis when a range of symptoms becomes problematic.

  • Signs that you may need to seek a professional ADHD assessment include:

Ongoing difficulties with focus, attention, impulsivity, and organisation. These challenges could impact schoolwork or work performance, daily tasks and responsibilities, time management, social interactions and relationships, and employment opportunities. Signs can also include impatience, discipline problems, excessive movement or talking, and emotional overreactions.

  • 1.Background session/s - one to two sessions with the client and/or parent obtaining developmental history, clearly define the purpose of the assessment, and determine the plan for assessment.

2.Administration – one to two sessions administering the selected assessments. This stage can span across multiple sessions. (As all assessments are personalised to the individual, this stage can vary in time per client).

3.Assessment scoring and report preparation by psychologist (usually 6-8 hours).

4.Feedback session - one session devoted to providing a summary of results and recommendations, and release of report.

5.Communication with other stakeholders – Our psychologists are also able to communicate results of the assessment and provide feedback and strategies to other stakeholders (school, workplace etc.) for an additional fee.

  • Our fees reflect:

    • the cost of the test,

    • the time required to complete all stages of the assessment process, as well as supervision or secondary consultation involved.

Assessments can take between 8 and 20 hours to complete from start to finish, depending on the number of tests administered and sessions needed. Our clinicians take their time to produce a tailored report and list of recommendations that are specific to you or your child’s needs.
